Description

This lesson series examines the personality and work of the Holy Spirit and includes special studies on the miracles and supernatural gifts of the Spirit. These lessons will provide material to help Christians understand and prepare to explain the work of the biblical doctrine of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is often misunderstood and treated with superstition. Ignorance of the Bible s teaching on the Spirit s person and work produces erroneous beliefs. Many erroneously believe that the Spirit leads through mystical emotions or feelings affecting the heart. Others reject the Holy Spirit because they cannot see, touch or hear Him. Consequently, the Holy Spirit is treated with an aura of mysticism. People trust in their own perception of the Spirit and reject the Church, Scripture, and any common sense approach of understanding God’s will. They believe that if they “possess” the Spirit they can do no wrong regardless of what the Scripture states.

The Holy Spirit is often discussed with a number of conflicting opinions. Some even consider the Holy Spirit to be incomprehensible. This series examines various aspects of the Holy Spirit, but it cannot clarify all the confusion. Some questions about the Holy Spirit are unknowable (Dt 29:29). However, some questions about the Holy Spirit are knowable and are discussed in the lessons.

The Scriptures will dictate all thoughts, and only the Scriptures are able to give us information regarding the Holy Spirit. Thus, only the Scriptures will be studied. This series is written with the conviction that God has revealed sufficient information for us to know the important matters.
