Spiritual Warfare

Description

This lesson series looks at some of the spiritual elements that are involved in the war against our flesh and soul. As Christians, we do not fight against mere physical forces or persons. Sure there are physical battles with sin, sickness, or other trials to our spiritual lives. Some in history have faced physical challenges to their faith that included the possibility of abuse, persecution and even death. Our first-century brethren understood this threat to their physical bodies much more than some of us who live in a more free society. However, these physical battles are not the only battles in our Christian life.

From some of the earliest books of the inspired canon, a student of God’s word can see the concept of spiritual warfare. Consider Job and the story of his perseverance through the temptations of Satan. This was not merely a physical challenge to Job, because Satan used his spiritual powers to try and cause Job to deny the Creator. This early story underscores the importance of realizing spiritual warfare may surround our lives on a daily basis. These spiritual battles may not be something we can see or touch, but they still affect our lives in a very real way.
